My Plant Peeves, or “Are You In There?” – Privacy Hedges

Nosy neighbors, street noise, ugly junkyards next door – there are many reasons why we want privacy.  But what is your goal?  Privacy or marching soldiers?

 

Fences can provide what we crave, but there’s also a way to accomplish privacy screening with natural beauty.  Trees and shrubs can increase the value of your property and benefit the environment at the same time, besides providing sensory enjoyment, seasonal interest, and eliminating the view of that prying neighbor in the back.  Or the street view in front.  But do you really want a wall of trees or shrubs?

Here is a lovely solution – a grove of birch trees gives good coverage when leafed out and is a sensory barrier throughout the year.
